MDC1101-581387-Example Paragraph

In class, we spoke about developing a paragraph using examples.  We looked at a page from the University of North Carolina that explains the development of a paragraph using exaples.

http://www.unc.edu/depts/wcweb/handouts/paragraphs.html#6

You actually wrote the paragraph (or started to write it) in class.

Remember, this is what I asked for:

  1. Topic sentence (1 sentence).  This sentence tells the reader the main point of the paragraph
  2. Explain the topic sentences (1 or 2 sentences).
  3. An example.  Use the words “For Example,…” to start this example. (1 – 2 sentences)
  4. Explain your example. (2 sentences)
  5. Another example.  Use the words “Another example of…” to start your second example.
  6. Explain your second example.
  7. Conclusion (1 – 2 sentences)

Now I would like you to post your paragraph to this blog.

Write your paragraph in MS Word and cut and paste as a “comment.”  All of you should complete this assignment before our next class on Nov. 16.

Thank you.  I look forward to ALL of us reading your paragraphs!

Most people think harmful drugs are found only on street corner or in local pharmacies not cleaning cabinets or garages. But sometimes items commonly found in millions of homes aren’t used for their intended purpose, these items are known as inhalants. Some examples include glue, nail polish remover, hairspray, gasoline and correction fluid. Many people mostly children’s often start using inhalants because they are cheap, can be purchase legally and are easy to obtain. More than two million children’s age 12-17 have reported to have used inhalants at least once in their lifetime. These deadly substance are not something you have to buy of the streets, these are everyday products found in your home. Inhale in life, not death.

Drunk driving has been a very serious issue in our live today. I think the law should severely punish those who drive while drinking. For example, no one would like for a love one to die due to a car accident. To make matter worst, a love one get killed by an intoxicated driver. On average, there are approximately to me, about twenty fatal car accidents in the state of Florida. Half oh those accidents consists of drunk drivers. Another reason why drunk drivers should be punish is the fact that they put everyone in dander including themselves. No one is safe in the streets, why? No one knows. So, I think that the law ought to step up and put those who put other’ s life in danger.

Jimmy Buffett once said in one of his songs “if we couldn’t laugh we just would go insane.” Laughter is used as a means of relief for many people in the world. Some people laugh because it makes them and others feel joyous; others laugh because they use it as a mask. For example, I have a friend who is like a big Teddy Bear; he is always happy and enjoys making others laugh. His joy is contagious and everybody who hangs out with him ends up having a good time. Another example involves people using laughter to cover up their emotions. A friend of mind once said something to the affect of “Laughter is the best medicine. It is also the best mask.” Some people have their world caving in on them daily, and the only way for them to brush it off and pretend like it’s not happening is to laugh. We would definitely go crazy should we not be able to laugh; whether we do so to cover up our problems or to be joyous.

Family problems are amongst all of us. It is not something we can make disappear or run away from. No matter where we go the quarrel is still going to be their until the day the family gets together and resolves the issue. For example, my family right now is going through some hard times all because of mere he say she say drama and my father thinks that moving further away from his relatives will some how make it better, but he is wrong. The only thing he is doing is isolating himself from his loved ones. Another example is when I was nine years old and I said something I shouldn’t have said to my father that put my parents at risk for potentially getting separated. Luckily, they worked it out and ’til this day it has not been a problem. Even though we all are exposed to family problems at one point of another the solution is in our hands and the chouce of mending the problem lies within us, nowhere else.

Florida Keys is a paradise. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy and it’s a beautiful place. For example, if you love the waters; you can enjoy the water sports such as wake boarding or going out on the boat. In the keys, many residents enjoy their days off by spending their time at the ocean. Another example is the view that you can never get sick of. Every time I see the ocean; it felt like my first time seeing something so incredible. The view of the deep blue ocean is amazing. Florida Keys is a paradise with unforgettable views and great outdoor activities to enjoy.

It’s tempting to blame fat people for the state they’re in. it’s also hard to ignore body image or American’s shape that has changed over the years. For example, obesity has taken over so many Americans lies. But who’s to blame? Studies show that over the years, restaurants now serve larger portions sizes. So, in reality “you eat more”, even if you don’t finish. From “super sizing” to just being able to choose small, medium or large meals threw drive thru restaurants really play a major role in Americas weight gain. Another example of obesity in America is the lack of physical activity. The way towns are built now, it’s become hard to get around anywhere without driving. Instead of more parks or even free gyms being built, more and more high calorie, fatty food restaurants are popping up on every corner. As an end result, one wonders who’s to blame….. Fat people of America?

I have to agree about the points on restaurants serving much larger portion sizes. In addition those fatty food places are definitely popping up everywhere. We have to remember, although they are selling food it is not because they want to feed us, but rather to make money. Cutting costs with cheaper materials, using high fat, sugar, and salt content for customer induced cravings and promoting their products to everyone is their way of making money, not making healthy meals.

One of the most beautiful things in nature, in my opinion, is the rain. While many of the people tend to run and find cover from the rain, I, on the other hand would stand and enjoy every drop of it. To me the rain is something special, magical, and unique; its something that brings out my true self-being. For example about two weeks ago, my day started of very stressful and confusing, until it started to pour down hard. The raindrops would calm me down, making me feel relaxed and happy. Being under the rain is where I most enjoy being. Another example of the rains magic would be how it unleashes the world beauty to my eyes. I don’t know how to explain it, but some people complain they can’t see anything, because the rain blurs their vision. Meanwhile, I find it, that the rain clears it for me. Rain is one of the magical, and beautiful things in nature, at least it is in my opinion.

Obesity is a very serious problem; but the food companies are not the ones at fault. Obese people are more prone to heart conditions as well as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Obesity is a pandemic that spared no one, not even children, and it is the consumers that are to blame. For example, food companies are required to provide nutrional information and some are required to have it displayed somewhere where customers can see it. Taking the time to look at these labels will show how unhealthy their products may be. Another example is that the consumer is not being forced to buy the product. Consumers have a multitude of options but trend to choose Burger King and McDonalds a opposed yo Subway. At some places you can get more food for less money and rye consumers “pig out” and stuff themselves instead of just eating enough to be satisfied. By consuming those products in smaller quantities and sparringly as opposed to every day, one can live longer and healthier.

I agree 100%. Anyone over wieght is at fault for it themselves. They need to reconize the problem and work towards losing wieght rather then not caring.

A good father has always time for his children.Children want their father to
support them not only financially but also the availability of time for them. Like for example,if the kids have a school activities and need the presence of their father,a father should attend that certain event to show them how importa-ant are they.Another example is to read bedtime story to the children. The more time we can spend with our children the better off they will be.Our responsibi-
lity as a father is to become a good one.We must show to our children that we are always there and involved in their lives.

Insect communication can be interpreted in many ways, some say intelligent. For example, bees use a technique known as the waggle dance to indicate that they have found food. They position their bodies and run in a verticle line; then make a sudden shift to the left or right indicating the distance of the food according to the sun. Another example is the way ants communicate with each other. Ants leave a scent trail behind them from the area of the foods loction, leading up to the colony. This allows other worker ants to follow the trail and retrieve the remaining food.Insects may be far more superior than we have come to realize.

Knowing more than one language can be very helpful. We are living in a sociality that I gees 40% of the population speak Spanish and they do not speak English. I work with costumer, and the majority are hispanic and for them is very hard to understand the use of the medicine or ask the pharmacist some questions because of the language. I feel good serving as a translator beside by job, it fell good helping people to understand the meaning of the medication in the language that they understand. Another helpful side of knowing more than one language can help save people lives.I was in the hospital on the emergency room, and i heard some hispanic patient screaming that he was out of breath and a lot of aunt over him he also said he was allergy to aspirin; nobody paid attention to him at all. I thought that was a very important information for the nurse, so i went to the doctor deck and I let the doctors know. Immediately they took the patient to another room. After a couple hours the patient was back to his regular room.Every body was apprising what a did about telling what he was scramming including the patient. I felt really good about it. Knowing two language help people and also make you fell good about yourself.

There is a mist surrounding vegetarianism. Not many people actually know what core ideals a vegetarian ascribes to. Not taking into consideration all of the different variations from person to person, the most accurate example of a vegetarian is one who abstains from eating all meat products: beef, pork, poultry, fish and more. An even better example is one who does not eat meat but also believes the treatment of animals to be inhumane, cruel, gruesome, and disturbing and the consumption of their products to be disgusting and associated with many degenerative conditions. The combination of this diet and the mental awareness behind their choice is the perfect culmination of traits that embodies the true vegetarians.

  13. Embarrassment happens to everyone and it’s a part of life. No matter how careful or cautious you are, embarrassment will happen to you. For instance, we all have tried to hold in flatulence, but sometimes it is impossible for our bodies to hold in such pressure and it bursts out like a nuclear bomb. To make matters worse, sometimes this happens in the middle of a test when you can hear a pin drop from across the room. Another example of embarrassment is when you’re giving a speech in front of hundreds of people and something goes wrong. You try to be funny to calm your nerves, but no one laughs and you get even more nervous and embarrassed. Then, you trip over your tongue and nothing you say makes sense. Furthermore, embarrassment happens to everyone and there’s no way to prevent it, but remember it only makes you human.

Being overworked has many down falls. You feel as if there aren’t enough hours in the day to do what has to get done. I guess I had to learn that the hard way. Having two jobs and being a full time student does not correlate too well. For example, last week I did not do one of my assignments because I was working not only every day but twice a day. My days would begin at 5am. Another affect being overworked can have is compromising your immune system. I have been sick for two weeks. I now only have one job and can devote more time to my family and school work.

There are so many reasons why heretics are making Jesus look less desirable. Imagine giving a speech and someone than grabbing it and take it out of context. That is what religion has done and especially so-called believers to the image of Christ. When Jesus is audibly mentioned, people either think someone is after their money or a stack of religious rules of what you can and cannot do is presented. “Hypocrite” is the first word that comes to mind to someone who is currently not walking with Christ in most popular cases. Obviously, this is due to a personal experience they have had with a believer that disproved the existence of a Holy God by their act. However, if people were to find out exactly what Jesus is about they would see such a difference. God understands people are not perfect and knows how exactly that came to be. God also does not want religion to be your life; He wants to be your life and that is a big difference. For example, Christ never wore fancy shiny clothes or was wealthy or arrogant with His holy status. On the contrary, He interacted and hanged out with people. Beautifully, Christ dealt with people of wrongdoing (sinners) in a merciful and gracious way, and Christ himself would go to them. What does that have to say about Jesus? He is after people to establish an inseparable relationship with them. God Himself proves this point through Jesus. No one would give up their child to express their love for someone or in God’s perspective, creation, to establish a relationship. Therefore, we can agree that it cost God very much to make relationships possible. Horribly, people are using God’s name for mountain sized bank accounts and worst of all, manipulate individuals at the very core of their belief. If people would only how furious this makes God! If someone spoke wrong about you, chances are you would be very upset, and would also want to set the story straight about who you truly are. God desires to the same and He does it through scripture. So my biggest encouragement is for you guys is to seek truth not in a religious way, but in a relational and personal way. I also plead with you guys not to fall into fake televangelists who really are just after your money and proclaim fake promises or prophecies. The Gospel of John is a good place to start. (smiles).

Getting high on drugs can cause your brain to disintegrate. Smoking marijuana and getting high on LSD can turn your brain into mesh. For example smoking marijuana can cause your brain cells to die at a rapid rate. People who get high on marijuana all the time tend to become slower and delayed when they are not high. Another example is when people get high on LSD; it makes their brain go haywire. When high on LSD people see the world in different colors and their senses are much more sensitive. This happens because there is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Getting high on any type of drug cannot make your problems go away but cause more problems to occur in your brain.

I dispise being late. Being late places can cause a bad reputation for you, and could hurt you when it come to school and work. For example, i am a very prompt person, if im not somewhere exactly on time im there before. When it comes to work there is always one girl no one can count on to be on time. Yet she walks in with starbucks coffee in her hand. Another example is coming to class late, disturbing the class and having to find out what it is that you missed out on. Coming late to class can also effect your grade, or cause you to fail the class. Therefore, showing up late anywhere is never a good thing. Everyone i feel should be ready and on time.
